Spørsmål

Hi, I’m wondering if it’s allowed to have a belly button piercing? It’s allowed to have a pierced ear, so there’s no difference, and I want to know if there’s anything about this in our holy book, the Quran, not culturally but religiously.

Svare

Assalamu alaikum,

Thank you for your inquiry.

Piercing is not permitted on any part of the body except the ears and nose for women [Radd ul Muhtar 5:270].

This is because piercing is considered mutilation (muthla) of the body, which is forbidden in Islam. The second reason for the prohibition is that piercing causes unnecessary pain to oneself (self-torture).

Exceptions to the ban are made for the nose and ears, because Sharia considers them to be adornments for women. The same is not true for the navel or other body parts.

The fact that some relatively small circles consider piercing of various parts of the body to have an artistic touch does not constitute grounds for changing the ruling.

And Allah knows best Najeeb Naz
